Old window, red tiles, blue sky
The old windows probably dated from when the building went up, some time in the 1930s : the glass was of a wonderfully uneven finish, so the world outside was perpetually warped. Whatever the visual aesthetics, the fact is that those single-paned windows were bloody inefficient at keeping the heat in, plus the uninsulated wooden doors and frames let howling gales of drafts in during the winter. The new windows are somewhat more functional and utilitarian, but more than make up for that by keeping the temperature in bedroom above the level where frostbite sets in.Posted by daen at January 28, 2005 12:12 AM
